OUR FARM
Daikichi Farm

DAIKICHI FARM
Omi beef, nurtured by nature
and generations of experience.
Drawing on the knowledge and techniques passed down since our founding in 1896, we raise each animal with care. Every day, we ask ourselves how our work can bring people joy and create a lasting impression.
That commitment led us to create Gion Daikichi: a place where our Wagyu Kaiseki can make your special occasions memorable.
We continue that work each day with sincerity and dedication.
FROM THE FARM
A glimpse of Daikichi Farm

SINCE 1896
The beginnings of Daikichi Shoten
In 1896, founder Daikichi Nagatani established Daikichi Shoten as a cattle and horse trading business in Takashima, Shiga. From the outset, he was committed to Tajima cattle.
This Meiji-era photograph shows Daikichi Nagatani and the cattle he had purchased outside the shop. The cattle's ceremonial cloth bears the words “Okura Village, Yabu District, Tajima Province,” identifying their Tajima origins.
Surviving purchase ledgers and a beef vendor's permit show that Daikichi himself travelled to Tajima to buy cattle. Before modern transport was available, he had to walk back to Shiga alongside the animals. The records give a sense of just how demanding that journey must have been.
Records from our early years

RAISING OMI BEEF
Raising cattle with
our customers in mind.
Since opening in 2006, Daikichi Farm has been dedicated to raising cattle for beef that delights our customers. Their satisfaction guides our work every day.
As in our early years, we remain committed to Tajima tsuru-ushi bloodlines, whose meat quality sets them apart from other lineages.

WATER OF OMI
Omi's water,
an essential part of raising our cattle.
Omi's natural spring water is essential to raising Wagyu. In the natural surroundings of Kumano Shrine at the foot of the farm, a clear stream flows that appears to be a tributary of the Adogawa River. Takashima is also home to Akiba no Mizu, a spring that local residents have long valued as a source of water for everyday life.

A CYCLE OF CARE
A farming cycle shared
with our local community.
We feed the cattle at the same times every day to respect their natural daily rhythms. Regular cleaning is equally important: cattle prefer a clean environment, and we work continually to give them calm surroundings where they can stay healthy.
The straw they eat—an average of 4 kg per animal each day—plays an important role in the quality of both the meat and the fat.
We work with local farmers to create a cycle in which nutrient-rich compost improves the soil, the fields produce good rice, and the rice straw returns to the farm as feed for our cattle.

COMPANY
Daikichi Group
Since our founding in 1896, our daily work has been guided by two aims: to bring people delicious Omi beef, and to carry its traditions forward.
With a history of around 400 years, Omi beef is Japan's oldest beef brand and is recognised as one of the country's three great Wagyu brands. As part of the livestock industry, we work to uphold that tradition and share the flavour of Omi beef with our customers.
Daikichi is a group of three organisations that integrates farming, processing and sales. Our operations comprise two farms raising Omi beef, one of Japan's three great Wagyu brands; four locations encompassing our head office, beef processing, and the manufacture and retail sale of Omi beef products; and two Omi beef restaurants.
